Industry Expo And Pros Cite Five 2025 Smart Home Trends

“Two-thirds of consumers say they want a connected home,” reported the National Association of Home Builders on its website, adding, “Soon, a home without any smart home technology will be worth less than one with smart home gadgets in it.” The building, design and remodeling professionals who gathered in Denver last month for the annual CEDIA smart home technology expo agree, and are committed to keeping up on the latest innovations and trends for their clients.

Kyle Steele, the Los Angeles-based president of Global Wave Integration, a smart home technology consultancy, has been attending the show for more than two decades, he says. Steele and his colleagues partner with design and building professionals on their projects to make homes as smart and user-friendly as possible. That potential is getting easier as the industry expands, he notes. Long Island, New York-based interior designer Toni Sabatino agrees. She’s been attending the expo every year since 2018.

They, along with other industry watchers, share these trends from CEDIA and recent studies, to consider for your home in 2025 and beyond.

A ‘Hot’ Home Trend: Biosaunas Offer All The Health Benefits Without the Extreme Heat

You’ve heard of dry saunas and steam rooms—but a new type of heat therapy that combines the best of both worlds has entered the chat. Meet biosaunas, a hybrid of a traditional Finnish sauna and a steam bath that makes for a milder experience without compromising on health perks.

Biosaunas, also referred to as sanariums, operate at temperatures between 120 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and a higher humidity level—usually anywhere between 20% to 70%, while dry saunas typically have temperatures ranging between 150 to 190 degrees with very little humidity. As such, biosaunas are a more suitable option for those who are sensitive to high heat, including older adults and those with health ailments like high blood pressure, heart disease, respiratory issues and pregnant people. They rely on a specially calibrated heater with a built-in humidifier and can include aromatherapy and light therapy functions for an elevated experience.
