Holiday Activities Around Summit County

Like most things in 2020, the holidays will look a little different this year. While some of our favorite events have been postponed, there are still plenty of fun things to do around the county this season! Keep reading for fun holiday activities around Summit County.


Cut down a Christmas Tree

Make sure to get your permit! You can purchase them online here. 4th and 5th graders are also eligible for a free permit through the Every Kid Outdoors program, find more information about that here.


Send a Letter to Santa

Starting December 4th, Santa will have a special mailbox set up by the Town of Silverthorne. Located outside the Silverthorne Pavilion, kids can write a letter to Santa using this template, and any letter delivered by the 14th will receive a special reply!


Visit the Holiday Light Displays

Dillon: Holiday LED Light Show

Starting December 2nd, each evening from 5-9pm a giant LED Holiday Tree illuminates the night with music and a choreographed light show. Located at the Marina Park Pavillion in Dillon, the tree will be on display through mid-January.



Over 250,000 LED holiday lights hung throughout downtown Breckenridge will turn on December 5th and will continue shining all winter long. A festival of holiday trees decorated by community businesses will also be added to the Blue River Rec Path and remain on display throughout the month of December.

  • Town tree in front of the Silverthorne Performing Arts Center
  • Town Hall
  • Recreation Center
  • Rainbow Park
  • Trent Park
  • Recreation Path between Chipotle and the Silverthorne Pavilion Bridge
  • Big Foot at the Exit 205 Westbound Ramp
  • Moose at the Exit 205 Eastbound Ramp



Visit the Dillon Ice Castles

The Dillon Ice Castles are back for their 4th year! Experience a true winter wonderland with it’s glowing towers and glittery tunnels, a great activity for the whole family. They are expected to open in December and stay through May 15th.


Hit the Slopes

Nothing says holiday vacation like visiting a cozy ski town. Our Summit County resorts are open and taking all the precautions to keep this ski season safe. Don’t forget to make a reservation!


Watch The Lake Dillon Theatre Company’s Holiday Follies

Celebrate the holiday season with the Lake Dillon Theatre Company Staff and Special Friends! This year’s Holiday Follies will be a night of Holiday revelry you can experience from your own home. Starting December 23rd at 7pm, you can stream the show anytime until January 3. Visit their website for more information!


Dine in a Yurt

Breckenridge restaurant, Aurum, has gotten creative to keep the dining experience safe and fun this season. Reserve a private, heated yurt for you and your party to dine in here!


Participate in Smart Bellies’ Virtual Cookie Decorating Challenge

The Smart Bellies nonprofit organization is hosting their first “Frost Off” virtual cookie decorating challenge and fundraiser. To participate, register by December 10th and you will receive a custom cookie cutter or decorating kit. Each registration fee includes a $20 donation to Smart Bellies. The organization will host a Zoom “decorating bonanza” on December 20th at 1pm, and voters will pick the winners the following day. You can register and find more information on the event here.


Shop Local

Communities around the county are encouraging everyone to shop local for their holiday gifts this year. The Town of Frisco is offering a “Love Frisco” bonus program for buying gift cards to local establishments. From November 15th – January 15th, you can purchase an e-gift card online at, and the town will add a 33% bonus amount to your gift card. So if you spend $30, you get an additional $10. You can use these gift cards at any of the participating businesses. Find more information about the program here.
